I had a wonderful shoot with model/r&b artist Love Jones!
She came ready and prepared for beautiful shots... she stated to me that I made the selection of her final images were soo hard to choose from, due to having a great range of beautiful photos. She ended up getting more images than she set out to prior to shooting!! The images came out great, here's a preview... more from this shoot and more available on my website http://www.msmahan.com/ .

This is my second time shooting with Love... and guess what? She called to schedule yet another with me... so stay tuned for our next shoot! It will be a bathroom scene!

Aaliyah Haughton Movie!?
I've been reading blogs (which may or may not be rumors)... but I've been reading numerous places that there will be a movie made about the late singer/actress Aaliyah. This movie is rumored to be released May 2010.
If this is true, who will play the role of Aaliyah?
It's been talk about Megan Good expressed interested in the part... but according to the majority of blogs, it seems as though a Canadian singer by the name "Keisha Chante" will get this part.
Rumor has it that Keisha has been in extensive training with the late Aaliyah's choreographer (Fatima Robinson), studying private videos and speaking with Aaliyah's family.
I, personally, would love to see this movie hit the big screen. As I would be the first in line! Others have a different view... eitherway, if it is a movie... hopefully I will be able to make it!
Here is a link to the singer that is rumored to play the role of Aaliyah:

Photography business cards

I am soo excited! I just created a layout for my new business cards... I can not wait until I hand them to potential clients, to see their reaction to my work. To me, it is like a mini portfolio, rather than a simple business card. (Like my previous card above) This card is very basic, but includes all contact information necessary - which gets the job done eitherway!
I love creating new things, especially those that helps promote my "hobby" and I am really considering offering my service to local business owners as I get better with the software.

Above you will find the front & back to my updated business cards and wedding flyers! I am soo grateful to Steve & Rachael for allowing me to photograph their wedding day! Thus giving me great photos to use for my flyer!!! I hope that you enjoy the design... more photos coming soon! As I am always trying to evolve and try out new things.

My First Wedding Shoot
((shouting from a mountain)) I had my first official wedding photoshoot - I must say that it went surprisingly well! I was skeptical to shoot a wedding on my own, mainly because of the horrid stories from other photographers about wedding shoots. Admittedly I was partly swayed because the couple stated that they didn’t want anything too formal and preferred more of a casual style of photography and would want most of the images taken in that style. It also helped that the very loving couple were a joy to be around, they project positive energy to all that are around them. I am happy that this beautiful couple chose me to document the most important day of their lives. As the time grew closer I became more and more nervous about the big day and started to browse the net to see what information I could find about wedding photography. I received loads of great advice from Wedding Photography Survival Tips I highly recommend this site to any new photographer looking to shoot weddings.
The night before the wedding I made sure that all of my gear was packed and ready for action; batteries were charged, plenty of memory cards, etc
I felt soo under (my own) pressure to get everything right - but, I believe that no matter how much you research and rehearse you can never predict the outcome - for us "first timers" atleast. I became a bit more relaxed as the couple and the groom's mother suggested to me that I enjoy the day as well as taking photos as I was just as much a guest as I was the photographer.
Seems obvious, but here are 2 main things that are on a need-to-know basis:

Seems obvious, but here are 2 main things that are on a need-to-know basis:
- Weddings move quite quickly, know your kit and know it well - saying "hold that pose" during the first kiss is NOT a good look for you! Especially for those group shots - you do not want people to stand around waiting on you to play with your equipment and learning the day of.
- Try being mobile during the ceremony - Be alert of the building structure... try getting both the entrance and exit of the bride and groom... having a second shooter would have helped me a lot!
All in all, I am very grateful for the couple for giving me such an enjoyable experience - they knew that this was my first official wedding shoot and they were happy to give me a try anyway... I learned tons - mainly that I have much more to learn... through experience ofcourse. If you were like me and browsing books and sites to find answers, stop now and use your time to shoot more, as "practice makes perfect".

Website Intro
I made a life decision a little over one year ago – My Mother and I were working hard to make it a reality. I designed my web site
( http://www.msmahan.com ) after much consideration, we both sat down and started brainstorming ideas to find work. One of those ideas was the most obvious ADVERTISING... I then found my talent for designing flyers, business cards and logos.
Starting any business is never EASY... I find it difficult to try to convince people to part with their money. However, I am confident in my skills as a photographer, so I do not feel that I am offering something that is not worth what I am asking. I received a tremendous amount of help and support from my lovely mother Robinlene Upshaw. She encouraged me every step of the way... and done more for me than I could ever thank her for! When my mother was physically here, the name of my photography business was simply 'Rhonda Mahan Photography'... I have now changed the name to a powerful "Memories Of Mine", my acronym of MOM, in dedication to such a wonderful mother and grandmother.
Please take the time to have a look through my new site. Enjoy the current content, send the link to friends, and please consider me if you live near the Central Valley and are in need of a photographer.
